Inuit JBNQA Beneficiaries have the exclusive right to hunt and fish in Category I and II lands. Non-beneficiaries may be authorized to practice sports hunting and fishing on these lands at the discretion of each Landholding Corporations. The authorization is granted by Landholdings in the form of a physical authorization permit outlining specific conditions. The species permitted, the number of catches and the hunting/fishing season may vary from one LHC to another. Please be sure to consult the corporation's hunting and fishing regulations for more details.
LHC Authorization Permit for Sport Hunting/Fishing
Each Landholding Corporation sets its own rules regarding hunting and fishing seasons, permitted species, and catch limits. Non-beneficiaries must obtain an LHC authorization permit, which outlines the conditions and validity of their sport hunting/fishing activities. Permits can be purchased at the local LHC office during regular business hours. An online purchasing platform is currently under development and will be available in the future.

General Rules Applicable to Sports Hunting and Fishing in Nunavik
Before engaging in sport hunting or fishing in Nunavik, you must first obtain a valid provincial hunting and/or fishing licence. No LHC authorization permit will be issued without it.
Note: There are no provincial licence sales outlets in Nunavik. Make sure to have your licence upon arrival, or purchase it online (this option is not available for licences requiring a transportation coupon). A valid LHC authorization permit is required for all sport hunting and fishing activities on Category I and II lands. Each LHC sets specific conditions that must be followed. Being accompanied or invited by an Inuit beneficiary is not a valid authorization for carrying sport hunting/fishing activities in Category I and II lands. A LHC authorization permit is required at all times.
Residents*, as defined by the Northern Village, must obtain an authorization permit, even if it is issued free of charge.
All activities must comply with Quebec hunting and fishing regulations. Nunavik falls within Zone 23 North. For more information, contact the Kuujjuaq Wildlife Protection Office at 819‑964‑2791.
Prohibited Activities for non-beneficiaries
- Sports hunting is prohibited for the following species: caribou, muskox, polar bear
- Sports fishing is prohibited for the following species: whitefish, lake sturgeon, mooneye and goldeye, burbot, and suckers
- Winter sport fishing is prohibited except in designated exceptional lakes
- Use of fishing nets is prohibited
- Possession and use of dead bait fish are prohibited
- Salmon fishing requires the services of an outfitter, with a retention limit of four salmon regardless of size
- All trapping activities are prohibited.
Pituvik
Hunting in Inukjuak
Conditions
A Migratory Game Bird Hunting (MGBH) Permit, Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp, and Québec small game hunting licence are required for migratory bird hunting in Nunavik. Migratory birds harvested in Nunavik include primarily ducks and geese. Other migratory game birds, such as Wilson’s Snipe, may be harvested where permitted under applicable regulations.
Hunters must comply with all applicable requirements, including required permits, hunting seasons, species restrictions, and daily bag and possession limits.

Fishing in Inukjuak
Conditions
Summer Sport Fishing
- Summer sport fishing is permitted between June 1 and September 1.
- From September 2 to September 30, sport fishing is permitted only with an authorized Inuk guide and is limited to catch-and-release fishing only.
- Fishing is prohibited on the portion of the Inukjuak River located on Category I lands. Sport fishing is permitted only on the Category II lands portion of the Inukjuak River, located approximately 10 km from the community, beyond the dam.
- Fishing is prohibited at Five Mile Inlet.
Winter Sport Fishing
- Winter sport fishing is permitted only between December 1 and April 30.
- During the winter sport fishing season, non-beneficiaries may sport fish only in the following lakes (water bodies of exception):
- Nauligarvilaap Tasialunga
- Lake Isuilutaq
- All other lakes and rivers located on Category I and II lands in Inukjuak remain closed to sport fishing by non-beneficiaries.
