Epigituk
Killiniq
Epigituk means “flat land higher than the sea level” in Inuktitut and is the landholding corporation of the former community of Killiniq. Epigituk Landholding Corporation of Killiniq was established in 1979.
Although the Inuit of Killiniq were signatories to the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement in November 1975, no municipal infrastructure was ever developed in the community. Following the closure of Killiniq in 1978, most of its population was relocated to Kangiqsualujjuaq.
Despite this relocation, the Epigituk Landholding Corporation of Killiniq has retained ownership of its Category I and II lands, which it continues to administer for the benefit of its members. The Landholding Corporation shares office space and administrative services with the Qiniqtiq Landholding Corporation of Kangiqsualujjuaq.
