Umiujaq
Anniturvik means « a place where they hold it in protection” in Inuktitut.
Umiujaq meaning « which resembles a boat” in Inuktitut is located on the shores of Hudson Bay and was established in 1986. The Inuit negotiated a clause into the 1975 James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement that provided for the relocation of the Inuit from Kuujjuarapik to a new settlement unaffected by hydro-electric development. Following a referendum, the new community of Umiujaq was chosen.
