Nayumivik means « a place to own” in Inuktitut. Nayumivik LHC was established in 1979.
Kuujjuaq meaning "great river" in Inuktitut, is located on the shores of the Koksoak River 50 km from Ungava Bay. It is the largest community in Nunavik and the administrative center of the region.
