Qaqqalik Salluit

Qaqqalik means “the place of many mountains” in Inuktitut.

Salluit meaning « the thin ones” in Inuktitut is located about 10 km from the Hudson Strait. In the 1930s the Hudson Bay Company opened up a trading post in what is present day Salluit. The Government of Canada opened a day school in 1957. As more public services were being delivered, Inuit settled around the small village.

    Partnership developed in 1196 between the Nunaturlik LHC of Kangiqsujuaq and the Qaqqalik LHC of Salluit to develop business opportunities in the mining sector for the benefit of the communities. It has developed partnerships with several companies such as BQE Water, Blais Industries, Redpath, Norfil, RJLL, Kiewit and ESS.

    Built in XXX, the office complex located at #1306 Imiqtavik Street in Salluit includes the corporate offices of Qaqqalik LHC, a large conference room fully equipped with a simultaneous translation booth and audiovisual equipment and XX office rental spaces. It also houses the itinerant court. All office spaces are currently rented out.

    Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation owns a wide range of heavy machinery available for rental.

  • Granular material production

    Qaqqalik LHC operates a crusher and quarry, producing granular material essential to the community's construction industry.

  • Garage services

    Qaqqalik LHC operates a garage offering maintenance and repair services to both individuals and businesses, for both personal vehicles and heavy machinery.

Hunting and Fishing

Specific rules and conditions for non-beneficiaries are established by the Qaqqalik Landholding Corporations when sports fishing or sports hunting in Salluit.
